Description:
As part of the International Conference of the Institute of Obesity Research at Tecnológico de Monterrey, the Mexican guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of obesity will be put on the discussion table. This panel will include Dr. Emma Adriana Chávez Manzanera, Coordinator of the Obesity Clinic at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition "Salvador Zubirán," Dr. Verónica Vázquez Velázquez, President of OBESIDADADES A.C., and Dr. Juan Eduardo García García, former President of the Mexican Society of Nutrition and Endocrinology. With the moderation of Dr. Leonardo Mancillas, Clinical Director of Obesity and the Diabetes and Metabolic Clinic at IOR, they will be part of the discussion panel titled: Clinical Obesity Redefined: Advantages, Challenges, and the Transformative Power of Mexican Guidelines.
The clinical understanding of obesity has significantly evolved in recent years. It is now recognized as a chronic, complex, and multifactorial disease, whose diagnosis should consider not only excess body mass but also the metabolic, functional, and hormonal alterations associated with excess adipose tissue. In this context, a roundtable will bring together national experts to analyze the new definition of clinical obesity, its implications for medical practice, and the challenges of its adoption at various levels of care.
During the meeting, the new Mexican Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Obesity will also be presented. This document incorporates more precise diagnostic criteria and proposes an individualized treatment approach based on the latest evidence. The guidelines represent an effort to update clinical recommendations in light of current knowledge and to promote comprehensive and stigma-free care for individuals living with obesity.
