He is a physician trained at the University of Valencia, with a specialization in clinical endocrinology in Granada, where he obtained his PhD, studying the relationship between insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism. He completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard University with funding from the American Heart Association. Since 2000, he has been affiliated with the University of Cambridge, where he is Professor of Molecular Nutrition and Metabolism, Honorary Consultant in Metabolic Medicine, and holds multiple leadership roles at the Institute of Metabolic Science and associated research centers.
He maintains close collaborations with Spain, Europe, and Asia, participating in scientific panels and international committees. His research focuses on the mechanisms of lipid-induced insulin resistance and thermogenesis. He has published more than 250 scientific articles, trained doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, and has received numerous international awards. In addition, he holds an MBA and promotes innovative approaches in academic management.
