Dr. Solis-Herrera is the Founding Director of the Center of Excellence in Diabetes and Medical Director of the Clinic for Endocrinology, Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolic Health. She is the inaugural holder of the “Ed and Linda Whitacre Distinguished Endowed University Chair for Endocrinology, Diabetes Care and Research” and an Associate Professor in the Division of Endocrinology at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). She is a physician-scientist and a specialist in translational clinical trials, with research interests in diabetes and metabolic pathophysiology, mechanisms of action of novel metabolic drugs, cardiorenal endocrinology, obesity, and its complications.
As a specialist in internal medicine and endocrinology, her translational and clinical research in diabetes and metabolism has secured substantial grant funding. She has numerous publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and has been awarded the Voelcker and Doris Duke fellowships. She is actively involved in various professional associations at the local, national, and international levels.
She is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, the American Diabetes Association, and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. She serves as an associate editor and reviewer for several diabetes-focused journals and is passionate about educating the next generation of endocrinologists and scientists in diabetes and metabolic diseases.
